Giez

Giez is a very green village situated at the very heart of the Pays de Faverges. It is close to the lakeshore and to the chef-lieu, at the same distance from Albertville as it is from Annecy.

During the 19th century, the village reached a maximum population of 624 inhabitants. This population increase corresponded with a period of industrial development (exploitation of ore and textile activities). Nowadays, Giez totals 448 inhabitants and has become mainly residential, although several sawmills are still in activity around the village. The presence of a much appreciated golf course contributes to the development of tourism in the commune and has influenced its environment.
