SAINT-JORIOZ
Saint-Jorioz is a small village near Lake Annecy, and it has got 5,500 inhabitants. It was named after a famous local monk: Jaint-Joere. It is a beautiful place to visit and it retains much of its history.
Once there, you can visit the remains of a Roman road, the Chateau de Villard, which is a castle from the 12th century, and the Chateau de Nòvet.
Other interesting things to see are “Le Manoir Bon Accueil”, “Le Moulin du Pépé”, “Rest’O de la Plage”, “Les Châtaigniers”, and “Le Saint-Hubert”, among others.
Saint-Jorioz has much to offer. It is a nice village for relaxing, but also very good choice for those into sports. Lake Annecy has got incredible beaches which are great for swimming (they offer classes), games for children, or just for resting on its sands. The weather is pretty much like Annecy’s, so during summer you will have a nice weather with the sun warming up the waters of the lake. Other options are diving boards, fishing (you can hire an instructor), waterskiing and wakeboarding training, pedal boats, and the wharf of Saint-Jorioz is opened from the end of April to the end of September.
This enchanting village has also got a marina, a fitness center, cinema, the Mini Golf “Lac et Montagnes”, a sailing club located in a central position on Lake Annecy, and a tennis club which offers leisure, competitions, classes, and hiring overture. Apart from water sports, there are many other options. You can rent rollerblades or bikes and have a nice time around the countryside. The cycling tracks are great and there is one in particular that links all the villages on the west side of the lake, passing through Saint-Jorioz. This itinerary has got 36 km and presents no difficulties.
For those into antiques, there is a very good shop called “Temps d’Anse” offering furniture, dishes, house linen, and curiosities. The village also offers art exhibitions, and the tourism office can give you further info on them. The local market is a great chance for drinks and local food tasting, and music is played for tourists.
Other two options are offered by the “Patrimoine Culturel des pays de Laudon”: the House of the Country of Laudun, a small museum that shows the rural life of formerly, and the Workshop of Marthe, which has got decoration pieces and utilities.
Saint-Jorioz offers a range of options in accommodation: small, cozy hotels between the lake and the mountains, skiing holiday rentals including apartments and chalets, both self catering or bed & breakfast, four great campsites nearby, some holiday villas, auberges, and several bed and breakfast.
The closest airports are Meythet in Annecy and Chambéry. Many hotels include restaurants that offer great, traditional food. There are several amazing restaurants and bars spread around the village offering as specialty local cheese, French cuisine, and Savoyard cuisine.
